HAVE you ever noticed the row of coloured dots on the back of a packet of crisps? Or any other packaged foods for that matter.
If you have, and wondered what it couldn’t mean, a woman has finally spilled the beans – and it has nothing to do with the barcode as some might think.
TikTok user Sonya Gonzalez Mier revealed that she works in food marketing so she knows the answer to the this burning question.
She replied to another man’s clip where he asked what the colours on the back of his packet of crisps meant.
“I work in food marketing and we have these colour patches on all our packaging,” she said.
And confirmed: “No, they’re not barcodes, no they’re not a mysterious sign.”
Sonya revealed they are actually referred to as “colour control patches” and it’s used in the factory when the packaging is being printed.
“They are colour control patches, we need them because the colours that you see on the packaging are not actually the colours that we’re printing. Let me explain…,” she said.
“To choose the colours that you see on the packaging, we actually layer colours and the colour patches are the colours we are layering on top of each other to achieve the colours you see.
“To make sure the colours are correct, we look at the colour control patches and if they’re slightly off, we know that the whole packaging will be off.”
And adds: “Another day, another marketing mystery solved.”
