How did season one end?

WARNING: The below contains spoilers from episodes 1 to 3 of The Drowning.

We learnt quite early on the episode that Jodie was NOT Daniel’s mother after all, and that the teenager wasn’t her missing son Tom.

But what we didn’t expect was that it turned out that her brother Jason knew all along that Tom was dead, as he’d been with him when he died.

However, rather than owning up to the fact he was meant to be looking after the little boy when he drowned, he covered up the death.

He finally confessed this to Jodie, who was obviously very distressed about finding this out, and she ran off looking for Daniel – as she feared Jason had harmed him.

Then in a real twist of fate, Jason ended up drowning in the same lake where Tom died.

What could happen in the next season?

A second season could see the repercussions of Jason’s death.

Or maybe it turns out he didn’t actually die, as we only saw him appear to drown and no body was pulled from the lake.

Another season could also see Jodie’s mental health take a turn for the worse following the trauma she has suffered.

Is The Drowning a true story?

Although the storyline will be hauntingly true to some parents who have lost children in a drowning accident, the story is not based on actual events.

The story is very real and there will be families out there who have been through similar ordeals.

The four-part thriller was created by Noel Clarke and Jason Maza.
