Tottenham hold Houssem Aouar transfer talks with Lyon’s Arsenal target eyed for shock last-gasp move this window

TOTTENHAM have held talks with Arsenal target Houssem Aouar, according to reports.

The Lyon attacking midfielder has been heavily linked with the Gunners for the last two summer transfer windows but it now looks like they might miss out to their bitter rivals.

Aouar, 23, has two years left on his contract with the Ligue 1 side and reportedly wants to weigh up all his options before deciding what to do.

And Tottenham have held informal talks with his representatives, according to Sky Sports News.

The France international bagged eight goals and provided four assists in all competitions for Lyon last season.

His performances helped them finish fourth and qualify for the Europa League.

In the summer of 2020 the French side rejected a £40million bid from Arsenal.

The player’s value has now dropped to £25m following Lyon’s failure to secure Champions League football.

SunSport understands Arsenal were considering getting Aouar in on loan this summer as a last resort, with the need to replace Newcastle-bound Joe Willock a high priority.

The loan option would only come into play if a last-minute deal is needed towards the end of the window and other funds have been used elsewhere.

Aouar rose to Lyon’s senior squad in 2016 after a successful two-year run with the reserves.

Earlier on Thursday, it emerged Spurs have agreed to sign Pape Sarr from Metz.

The fee is believed to be £14.65m plus add-ons.

But Tottenham fans will have to wait to see the 18-year-old play for their club as he will return to Metz immediately on loan until next summer.
