THOUGHT you were giving your toilet a thorough clean? One revelation from a professional cleaner might have you thinking twice.
An expert from Melbourne, Australia, known as @thebigcleanco on TikTok has floored cleaning fans after sharing how they are probably using their disinfectant spray on their loo all wrong.
Naturally, people reach for a standard supermarket disinfectant spray to give the toilet a once over, but the professional revealed that unless you’re leaving the spray to sit, then your toilet won’t be very clean at all.
They explained that disinfectant needs time to sit for it to do its job and should be left to soak for 10 minutes, with many sprays stating so on the label.
“So you think you’re a clean freak? But here’s a hard truth from a professional cleaner. Just because you’re using a disinfectant spray does not mean you’re disinfecting anything,” the expert revealed as they shared a video of them scrubbing the loo.
Advising cleaning fans, they added: “You need to read the labels. These supermarket sprays need to be left on the surface for 10 whole minutes to kill any germs.”
Hundreds of people commented on the post, that has since been watched over 600k times online, with many sharing their frustration over not knowing that vital piece of information before tackling their toilets.
“I am so mad,” commented one person, while another quizzed: “So you’re telling me… my toilet I cleaned thoroughly today is still dirty?”
A third wrote: “Well this did amazing things for my anxiety. MY HOUSE IS A CESSPOOL.”
Sharing their shock, another person added: “Omg I have never read the label.”
Other cleaning enthusiasts were already clued up on their disinfectant, but were still floored at just how many others hand’t been.
One person shared: “It’s so shocking how many people didn’t know this.”
